Indosat and ST Telemedia Group Companies Pledge S$1.3 million for the Rebuilding of Schools in Aceh

Jakarta and Singapore, 3 February 2005 - As part of the continuing support for the tsunami relief efforts in South Asia, Singapore Technologies Telemedia (ST Telemedia) and its subsidiaries, Indosat and StarHub, pledged to donate approximately S$1.3 million* for the rebuilding of schools in Banda Aceh. The pledge was announced last night at the launch of Indosat's New Corporate Identity in Jakarta. Presenting the pledged donation to Mr Gatot Hari Priowijanto, Director of Middle Level Special Education from the Ministry of National Education, was Mr Lee Theng Kiat, President and CEO of ST Telemedia, and Mr Ng Eng Ho, Indosat's Deputy President Director.
The breakdown of the fund pledge is as follows: Rp4.1 billion from Indosat, S$500,000 from ST Telemedia and S$100,000 from StarHub. In addition to funding the reconstruction, Indosat plans to support these schools for their long term educational needs as part of its community development programme.
In the coming weeks, Indosat and ST Telemedia will be working closely with the Indonesian government agencies and authorities, and non-profit educational institutions to determine the best allocation of the fund for the reconstruction of the schools in Banda Aceh.

Since the tsunami disaster, ST Telemedia, its subsidiaries and group employees have contributed and pledged a total of approximately S$2.8 million in cash, products and services to various organisations, including medical agencies and school rebuilding in Banda Aceh.
Some of the group's contributions include:
Indosat and its employees' total donations and service contributions, excluding the pledged fund for school rebuilding in Aceh, amounted to Rp6.3 billion. Indosat has channelled the donations to the most needed areas in the relief program through the Indonesian government agencies and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) such as, the Indonesian Red Cross, the Nangroe Aceh Darussalaam (NAD) and North Sumatra Recovery Team.
Indosat was also the first telecommunications operator in Indonesia to offer free calls to tsunami victims and relief workers through its mobile phone booths, called "Posko Indosat Peduli", in Banda Aceh and Meulaboh. Recognising a greater need to communicate frequently with loved ones, Indosat had automatically topped-up the phone cards of its existing customers in Aceh with free airtime worth Rp100,000, and offered a hefty 75 per cent price discount for all calls originated from the Province of Aceh. Indosat has created an SMS contribution programme, named "SMS Donasi Aceh" launched on 31 December 2004, for its customers to make donations to the tsunami relief efforts.
ST Telemedia and StarHub have responded with a combined donation of S$110,000 to Network Indonesia, a network of Singapore-based companies with interests in Indonesia, for their aid to Indonesia's humanitarian relief. Close to S$1 million, in cash or in kind, were raised from Network Indonesia's members and business community. ST Telemedia made a further donation of 3,500 Indosat SIM cards, worth S$70,000, to Network Indonesia in aid of the recovery efforts.
StarHub has contributed another S$100,000 to The Medical Foundation, which is supported by the Raffles Medical Group in Singapore, for the purchase of medical supplies, drinking water, water-purifying tablets, surgical and sanitation supplies, and essential consumables such as milk powder, for the tsunami victims. All donations from StarHub are made through StarHub IDD Charity Fund, which derives its fund from one per cent of the company's revenue earned from all its IDD 008 and IDD 018 calls.
Besides StarHub's corporate contributions, StarHub customers are also able to get in the act and donate personally to the charity effort. StarHub created the SMS Hotline for cash donations from its mobile postpaid customers, allowed conversion of StarHub Reward Points to cash donations, and set up donation boxes at StarHub Shops and exclusive partner outlets throughout Singapore to raise funds for the disaster victims.
Other ST Telemedia's companies such as TeleChoice and Equinix, have made sizeable donations to relevant relief agencies and the Red Cross to assist in emergency programs to help the tsunami victims in South Asia.
