ST Telemedia Global Data Centres expands its South Korea footprint with second data centre
/Singapore: 8 June 2022 - ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), a leading data centre service provider headquartered in Singapore today announced plans for a second data centre site in Gasan-dong, Seoul, South Korea. The establishment of this data centre site is backed by a global institutional investor, and Samsung SRA Asset Management, the real estate investment arm of Samsung Group.

The new data centre site will comprise 31,205 square metres of gross floor area, delivering a development potential of 30 megawatts of IT power. The new data centre site will be situated within Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul. It is also strategically positioned near to Mokdong with access to nearby substations, as well as critical telecommunications, subway stations (Gasan Digital Complex and Doksan), logistics and knowledge industry centres.

Under this arrangement, both partners will develop the shell and core of the data centre. STT GDC will lease the shell and core building, complete the remaining DC fitouts, and then operate the state-of-the art data centre which is expected to be ready for service in H1 2025.

As the first country in the world to commercialise 5G networks in 2019, more than a quarter of South Korea’s total mobile connections is powered by 5G today – this is higher than anywhere else in the world1. The country’s public cloud market is also set for growth, as it is expected to double in size from $1.5 billion in 2018 to $3.1 billion in 20232.
